The Challenge

We’re a family-run manufacturing, distribution and property business based in Knowsley, operating the well-established brands Ley Rubber and COH Baines. For over 30 years, we’ve worked with DSG, and what started as a straightforward audit has become something much more valuable.

Like many family businesses, we’ve faced our share of challenges. Leadership transitions, economic downturns, and the constant pressure to grow whilst staying true to our roots, and these aren’t easy to navigate alone. We needed advisors who understood not just the numbers, but the people behind them.

How DSG Supported Us

When Dean Wealleans took over as Managing Director after his father passed away, it was a difficult time. DSG was there with practical support that helped him through the operational complexities and the personal weight of stepping into his father’s shoes.

Our late founder trusted DSG partner Mark Kearsley enough to ask him to become a trustee of the business, which is a role he still holds. That level of trust doesn’t come easily, and it’s shaped everything since.

Beyond the standard accounting work, DSG has helped us with group restructuring, management information, tax planning and guidance through major decisions. They’ve been there through the tough times too: the 2008 recession, the pandemic and helping us make smart choices when the future felt uncertain.

Now we’re focussing on expansion, targeting £8.4m in revenue, and DSG continues to support us with capital investment planning, tax efficiency and site development.

Where We Are Now

Looking back, it’s clear that having the right advisors makes all the difference. We’ve kept our family values intact through decades of change, and we’re more confident about the future than ever.

As Dean puts it: “Mark Kearsley and the DSG team have been by our side through every major decision. From restructuring and succession to managing growth and planning for the future, DSG have gone beyond accountancy – they’ve been trusted advisors every step of the way.”

We’re building on a legacy that’s generations in the making, and we’re grateful to have DSG alongside us for the journey ahead.
